My Mistissini 2034

Shaping a comprehensive community-based tourism strategy to preserve culture for generations to come

opportunity

Developing four sectors of responsible tourism in Mistissini; sharing the local culture with the world; and inspiring an organic growth of the local economy.

what we did

CES was hired by the Cree Nation of Mistissini to create a 20-Year Tourism Plan that supports tourism development initiatives that respect values, preserve culture, and protect the way of life for the betterment of the nation’s people, environment, and economy.

challenges

Addressing the need to map out how tourism can grow sustainably over 20 years.

results

CES worked with the Mistissini Tourism Department and community members to define best practices, concepts, key initiatives, and action plans required to provide guidance and set the direction for tourism planning in the Nation for the next 20 years. The plan focuses on the 4 sectors of responsible tourism development and works towards transforming Mistissini into a world-class tourism destination. A result of this project led to the development of their new tourism website which involved a downloadable interactive map of the community’s offerings.
