Indigenous Tourism Ontario
Ito Strategic & COVID-19 Recovery Plan
Mapping out the route to recovery with Indigenous Tourism Ontario
opportunity
Moving forward with Indigenous tourism development in the province, setting goals that will be the stepping stone for bringing the province’s Indigenous tourism industry back on its feet.
what we did
CES was hired by ITO to assist in the development of their 5-year strategic organizational plan in response to the grave impacts that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the Indigenous tourism industry in Ontario.
challenges
The pandemic created unstable grounds for all sectors of the tourism industry, including Indigenous tourism. A lot of uncertainty was and is still present in the tourism industry as a result, therefore the need of creating a comprehensive and visionary plan that paves a bright way towards recovery was essential.
results
The Plan was built upon 3 steps: Preservation, Renewal and Rejuvenation, using a multi-dimensional approach, addressing the social, economic, environmental, and cultural impacts (SEEC Model) of the pandemic on the province’s Indigenous tourism industry. The Plan explored how to move forward balancing each of these elements while considering the communal good of the people, communities, province, and country. The Plan’s development involved extensive engagement of the industry by means of ITO’s Business Support Brokers, key organizational partners, as well as implementing a good-neighbour philosophy to encourage collaboration and sharing during these challenging times.
